El Segundo Little League World Champs!

Hard work pays off for California’s Little League team the El Segundo! On Sunday August 27th, El Segundo played against Curacao, a team from a small island near Venezuela, in the Little League Championship in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. In 69 years El Segundo had only made it to regionals, but never to the championship game, while this was Curacao’s fourth appearance.

El Segundo teammate Louis Lappe sealed the deal with his walk-off home run during the sixth inning to win the game! When the team arrived back home they were celebrated for days! At the airport the fire department had a water cannon shooting over the plane. Then the team was greeted by a huge crowd in their hometown. Tuesday, August 29th, the Dodgers invited the team to come celebrate at the stadium. And if all that wasn’t enough, on September 10th there will be a parade in their honor.

Two Card My Yard locations were able to help celebrate the boys' win. Card My Yard Torrance, owned by Rachel Mizuno, set up a sign at the City Hall that read “Congrats ESLL World Champions!” while Card My Yard West LA, owned by Courtney O’Donoghue, set up a sign at the boys middle school that read, “Congrats ESLL World Champs”. What a fun moment in history to be a part of!
